Born and raised near Rochester, NY, I spent almost 20 years in the U.S. Navy, first enlisted and later as a surface warfare officer. I served in seven different ships during that time, including a brief period as Executive Officer (second in command) of a 7.5 million gallon oil tanker. My last tour, I served as Director of Manpower, Personnel, and Training for 5,000 naval reserve members, then retired from the Navy in August 1995. I began my PhD studies in September 1996, finished in May 1999, and started a second career as a faculty member at MTSU in August 1999 teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses over the years in management, leadership, organizational behavior. I also spent seven years as Associate Dean of the Jones College of Business. I have met many amazing students along the way and have also had the pleasure of helping a number of students complete their Honors Theses.
