President's Greeting

Sydnee McPheeWelcome to Middle Tennessee State University, which is widely recognized as one of the best public universities in the country.

Founded on September 11, 1911, MTSU is proud of its century-plus commitment to academic excellence and student success. As a community of scholars, we enthusiastically embrace our past, celebrate our present accomplishments, and effectively plan for the future.

MTSU was the  oldest and largest member of the Tennessee Board of Regents system until it was granted its own governing board in 2017. It is the number-one choice of Tennessee's transfer students and adult learners and the number-one producer of undergraduate degrees in the Greater Nashville region.

Our academic programs are offered in state-of-the art facilities and our students live and learn in an environment which is aesthetically pleasing, academically stimulating, and culturally enriching. While we take seriously our role in preparing students for future careers and advanced scholarly pursuits, we also recognize that college is more than just classrooms and coursework. As such, we encourage students to participate in athletic and cultural events on campus as well as the more than 200 student organizations, which include everything from honor societies and service clubs to fraternities and sororities. Indeed, there is something to fit the unique interests and abilities of every student at MTSU.

We are committed to building a community that is devoted to student success and values individual learning, growth and service. We signal this commitment with a simple phrase: "I am True Blue." I encourage you to visit the campus and see for yourself the difference that MTSU can make in your future. If you cannot get here right away, take a look at our virtual tour at tour.mtsu.edu to see what being a part of Tennessee's Best is really like. Without a doubt, it is an unforgettable experience that can change your life.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sidney A. McPhee
