Office of Communication Research
The mission of the Office of Communication Research is to stimulate faculty and student research that will benefit the international academic community, the students of Middle Tennessee State University, and the citizens of Tennessee. The office’s projects include the once-a-semester MTSU Poll, which provides independent, non-partisan, unbiased, scientifically valid measures of public opinion among Tennesseans regarding major social, political, and ethical issues affecting Tennessee. The poll began in 1998 as a measure of public opinion in the 39 counties comprising Middle Tennessee and began measuring public opinion statewide in 2001. A commercial polling firm gathers the data. MTSU Poll principals Dr. Ken Blake and Dr. Jason Reineke, members of the MTSU School of Journalism’s faculty, develop each poll’s questionnaire and analyze, interpret, and disseminate the results. Analysis of the results also is integrated into several undergraduate and graduate courses within the College of Media and Entertainment. Results of each semester's poll are available online at: http://mtsupoll.org/.
