Sooyeon Lee

Sooyeon Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea. She began playing piano at age five and received her early piano education from music schools such as the Yewon School and Seoul High School of Music and Art. After her graduation from Seoul National University with a bachelor’s degree in piano performance, she moved to the United States and earned her M.A. and D.M.A. degrees at the University of Iowa.

In 1997, she met Professor Yevgeny Malinin of the Moscow Conservatory, who held the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation title. She studied and developed a depth of knowledge with him, especially in the works of Chopin, until he died in 2001.

Dr. Lee won Second Prize and the Best Interpretation of Chopin Prize at the Romantischer Stern International Piano Competition in Germany. She performed with the Moscow Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra and Rumanian Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra. She has been active not only as a soloist but also as a member of the ‘Soave Trio’.

Since 1998, she has been a professor at Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary in Korea.
