SPARE Manager Openings

2023-2024 Positions are closed. Applications for 2024-2025 will open in the spring semester. Each year we accept applications for all of our Student Manager positions within the SPARE Executive Council. To apply, please send a résumé and cover letter to tyler.adkins@mtsu.edu

Please note when applying: You must be able to attend mandatory trainings in August (typically the week before classes), and you must be able to attend weekly meetings during the academic year while classes are in session at a time agreed upon by all executive council members. If you are graduating, studying abroad, or taking any internships that may prevent you from being a SPARE Executive Council member for the entire academic year, you may still apply (and please note so in your cover letter), but preferences will be given to those who will be able to complete their position for a full academic year.

Detailed Job Descriptions

The primary responsibilities of every Student Manager are to:

  • Complete posted office hours;
  • Assist the SPARE President (or full-time staff) in preparing and conducting the weekly Executive Council meetings;
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate events;
  • Participate in any ad hoc committees as designated by the Office of Student Programming & Activities;
  • Attend/work events as arranged by the full-time staff of the Office of Student Programming & Activities; and
  • Assist the full-time Office of Student Programming & Activities staff with other duties and tasks in keeping with the mission.
  • Promote SPARE's brand at your events by wearing apparel provided by the SPARE Office

Concerts Manager

The Student Concerts Manager will be required to work an average of 12-15 hours per week for $12.00/hour (should you need additional hours due to financial concerns, you may request work with the office in order to be scheduled in the Game Room). In addition to the responsibilities of all Student Managers, the Student Concerts Manager has the following responsibilities:

  •  Facilitate Concerts Council Meetings;
  • Attend one-on-one meetings with designated full-time staff member;
  • Utilize Concerts Council members as staff for events;
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate Concert events, including but not limited to: theme nights, ballroom concerts, and new events;
  • Schedule/request all event space for activities;
  • Maintain a working Concerts budget;
  • Solicit feedback from event attendees and communicate information received to Student Promotions Manager;
  • Attend any All Hands on Deck Events**(see note at the bottom of the page) as requested by full-time staff; and
  • May serve as a member of the Signature Events Committee

    o   If selected, Concerts Manager may be Signature Event Committee Chair.

    o   If selected as Signature Event Committee Chair, maintain and manage Signature Events Committee budget, project management, etc.

Films Manager

The Student Films Manager will be required to work an average of 10-12 hours per week for $12.00/hour (should you need additional hours due to financial concerns, you may request work with the office in order to be scheduled in the Game Room). In addition to the responsibilities of all Student Managers, the Student Films Manager has the following responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Films Council Meetings;
  • Attend one-on-one meetings with designated full-time staff member;
  • Utilize Film Council Members as Theater staff;
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate Films events, including but not limited to: Weekly Film Series, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Annual Film Festival, and new events;
  • Schedule/request all event space for activities;
  • Maintain a working Films budget;
  • Solicit feedback from event attendees and communicate information received to the Student Promotions Manager;
  • Attend any All Hands on Deck Events**(see note at the bottom of the page) as requested by full-time staff; and
  • Work Films shifts as needed.

Game Room Manager

Game Room Worker experience is preferred but not required for anyone applying for the Game Room Student Manager(s) position. Due to the nature of this position, the Game Room Student Manager(s) should not have any employment outside The Office of Student Programing & Activities that interferes with the duties of their position (should you need additional hours due to financial concerns, please work with the office in order to be scheduled in the Game Room). The Game Room Student Manager(s) will be required to work an average 12-15 hours per week at $12.00/hour. In addition to the responsibilities of all Student Managers, the Student Game Room Manager(s) have the following responsibilities:

  • Understand all Game Room policies and procedures and enforce when necessary;
  • Attend Game Room Training Session(s) at the beginning of the academic year. Attend additional trainings as necessary;
  • Facilitate Game Room Staff Meetings (frequency to be determined with full-time staff);
  • Attend one-on-one meetings with designated full-time staff member;
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate Game Room Events including but not limited to: tournaments, theme days/nights, and new events (frequency to be determined by full-time staff);
  • Schedule/request event space for all activities;
  • Maintain a working Game Room budget;
  • Solicit feedback from event attendees and communicate information received to Student Promotions Manager;
  • Manage Game Room rentals as assigned by full-time staff;
  • Inventory all Game Room equipment on a continual basis. Research and suggest replacement, updated, or new equipment as needed;
  • Monitor all Game Room Forms on a continual basis. Make copies and replenish as needed;
  • Communicate with full-time staff member regarding Game Room issues and updates as needed;
  • Be on-call evenings and weekends while the Game Room is open. The schedule will be flexible and worked out amongst the Student Game Room Manager(s) and full-time staff;
  • Attend any All Hands On Deck Events as requested by full-time staff**(see note at the bottom of the page);
  • Work Game Room shifts as needed; and
  • Adjudicate staff behavioral issues (within reason) in conjunction with full-time staff.

Promotions Manager (incumbent)

The Student Promotions Manager will be required to work an average 12-15 hours per week for $12.00/hour (should you need additional hours due to financial concerns, you may request work with the office in order to be scheduled in the Game Room). In addition to the responsibilities of all Student Managers, the Student Promotions Manager has the following responsibilities:

  • Attend one-on-one meetings with designated full-time staff;
  • Maintain activity calendar for all upcoming events;
  • Plan and execute physical marketing efforts for all SPARE and Signature Events activities on calendar (including, but are not limited to, printing/disturbing posters for housing; printing/distributing posters for on-campus signage) with support from advisor;
  • Liaison with each council to solicit volunteers to assist in executing physical marketing efforts;
  • Input upcoming SPARE events into MyMT in a timely manner, as discussed between executive council team members and advisors;
  • Communicate and coordinate SPARE activity calendar with the Campus Life social media coordinator, including sharing details, graphics, copy, etc., in a timely manner as determined between executive council team members and advisors;
  • Plan promotional events on an ad-hoc basis to supplement activities that require additional promotional exposure;
  • Maintain promotions budget for ad-hoc events;
  • Coordinate and Plan ad-hoc SPARE recruitment efforts alongside executive council and advisor input, when needed;
  • Attend any All Hands On Deck Events as requested by full-time staff**(see note at the bottom of the page).
  • May create graphics for events, including web images, posters, etc. dependent upon experience with graphics software (not required to apply for position)

Variety Manager

The Student Variety Manager will be required to work an average 10-12 hours per week for $12.00/hour (should you need additional hours due to financial concerns, you may request work with the office in order to be scheduled in the Game Room). In addition to the responsibilities of all Student Managers, the Student Variety Manager has the following responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Variety Council Meetings;
  • Attend one-on-one meetings with designated full-time staff;
  • Utilize Variety Council Members as staff for events;
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate Variety Events with the assistance of full-time staff, including but not limited to: Connection Point Comedian, Fall Pumpkin Patch, Spring Giveaways, outdoor events and new events;
  • Maintain a working Variety budget;
  • Solicit feedback from event attendees and communicate information received to Student Promotions Manager;
  • Attend any All Hands On Deck Events as requested by full-time staff**(see note at the bottom of the page).
  • May serve as a member of the Signature Events Committee

    o   If selected, Variety Manager may be Signature Event Committee Chair.

    o   If selected as Signature Event Committee Chair, maintain and manage Signature Events Committee budget.

**All Hands on Deck Events are events put on by our SPARE Council or the Office of Student Programming and Activities that need extra help for a variety of reasons. These events may be on weeknights, or weekends. All Executive Council members will be expected to participate in working them (on a rotating basis). Please plan accordingly if applying for and are hired for one of our Manager positions.**
