Job Market Placements
The faculty and staff of the Department of Economics and Finance provide the resources and support needed to place our doctoral candidates as they near graduation. All candidates present their job market paper in our research seminar. These sessions are attended by the faculty and other graduate students. In addition, department faculty aid placement by sending letters of recommendation to potential employers, organizing a series of mock interviews, and offering advice for how to navigate the job market.
Considering the program's specialized focus, the department has demonstrated an excellent record of placing its students in tenure-track positions at well-known liberal arts colleges and other public universities. In recent years our Ph.D. graduates have accepted tenure-track positions as Assistant Professors at Auburn University, the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, Marshall University, Oklahoma City University, and Transylvania University. Students who opt for non-academic employment have accepted research positions at the US Food and Drug Administration, Federal Express, and various Tennessee state government organizations.
