From seven young educators Sigma Gamma Rho has become an international organization of over 85,000 women in every profession found in more than 500 chapters in the United Sates, U.S. Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Germany, and Korea.  Found among our circle of sisters are leaders in business, civic, educational, entertainment and arts, entrepreneurial, medical, political, medical, and science arenas.  Sigma women are dedicated to helping each other develop their unique talents through formal and informal sorority activities.

The Lambda Chi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was chartered at Middle Tennessee State University in March 1990.  There were nine women who began this special sisterhood that is continually growing.   The charter members are: Michelle Atkinson, Lisa Blackshear, Janine Caruth, June Coleman, Tameka Davis, Karen Jarrett, Michelle Russell, Juanita White Spicer, and Tonya Williams.

Lambda Chi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is grounded on Scholarship, Sisterhood, and Service for all women who are furthering their education and wish to donate their time to give back to the community.  Lambda Chi actively supports the sorority’s national projects, which has partnerships with organizations and agencies with like vision and community commitment to expand both the breadth and impact of the services provided.  Those partners include March of Dimes, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Girl Scouts USA, National Campaign to Prevent Teen & Unplanned Pregnancy, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, National Council of Women of the United States, and USA Swimming.

Lambda Chi chapter is advised by the Kappa Tau Sigma Alumni Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho.  Both chapters work together within the Murfreesboro/Rutherford County communities to uplift the organization’s aim to enhance the quality of life within the community.  Our service and dedication whether on campus or within the Murfreesboro community also is a representation of our motto, “Greater Service, Greater Progress”
