Welcome to Community and University Partnerships

Established in 2006, MTSU’s Community and University Partnerships (C-UP) is a clearinghouse for service learning, civic and community engagement, and other activities connecting communities with the University.

Community partnerships engage the University in the life of communities at local, state, national, and international levels. Through these partnerships, community-based organizations, government agencies, non-profit and business entities, and P-12 schools join with faculty and students in MTSU’s academic programs, the University’s research and public service centers, the American Democracy Project, and many other campus resources. Partners share knowledge, skills, and resources to build capacity and serve needs identified by community members.

The Carnegie Foundation defines community engagement as the “mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.” MTSU earned the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification in 2008 and 2015 and will apply to renew the classification in 2026.
