Concealed Carry Information for University Employees
Effective July 1, 2016, Tennessee Code Annotated 39-17-1309 has been amended to allow full-time employees of public institutions of higher education to carry concealed handguns if they have a valid Tennessee handgun permit; are not enrolled as a current or future student; and have provided written notification to the proper law enforcement agency.
To provide written notice to the University Police department, a Notification of Employee's Intent to Carry a Concealed Handgun form must be completed by the employee. The completed form must be delivered in person to the University Police located in the Public Safety Building at 1412 East Main Street. The form will be reviewed and the employee's handgun carry permit status will be confirmed. Provided all information is on the form and the handgun permit status is valid, the form will then be accepted and placed on file. The employee will be provided with a Summary of Campus Concealed Carry Rights and Responsibilities.
Due to the validation and confirmation process that must be followed, these forms can only be accepted during the regular business hours of the university (Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm). In order to provide the fastest service to employees wishing to carry a concealed handgun, an appointment should be made with Major Jason Morton or Captain Jason Wofford. They can be reached preferably by email, or by phone at (615) 898-2424.
DO NOT bring your handgun to this appointment.
