Athletic TrainingThe Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) offers students opportunities to prepare for professional careers as teachers of health and of physical education, as directors in industry and social agencies, as recreation and leisure service professionals in a wide range of settings, and as health and fitness professionals in schools, industry, and allied areas. 

Undergraduate programs in the department lead to the Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Community and Public Health, Leisure and Sport Management, Physical Education, Sport Pedagogy (Physical Education), Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

The Department of Health and Human Performance offers three Master of Science degrees: one with the major in Athletic Training, one with a major in Exercise Physiology and one with a major in Leisure, Sport, and Tourism Management with concentrations in Recreation and Leisure Services and in Sport Industry.  The department also offers a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Community Health.

The department also offers the Ph.D. in Human Performance with concentrations in four areas: Exercise Science, Health, Leisure Studies, and Physical Education.

Mission Statement

The Department of Health and Human Performance supports the mission of the University by providing quality teaching and research in a variety of interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs. Faculty, staff, and students engage in basic and applied research, encourage community and university service, and develop educational and community partnerships. 

Emphasis is placed upon effective instruction and creative activity in optimization of health and lifestyle modification, enhancement and maximization of physical performance, effective management and promotion of sport, provision of services in varied recreation and leisure settings, and prevention of illness and athletic injury. 

The department strives to improve and update academic offerings to keep pace with the continually evolving fields that comprise health and human performance in a student centered learning environment.
