Creating OER When OER Doesn’t Exist: Lessons Learned
Spring 2023
More Details
Are you considering replacing your textbook with free online educational resources (OER)? Have you managed to find a replacement textbook? Given that OER is a relatively new and fast-growing approach to reducing educational costs and barriers to access, most extant OER material is for general education courses—not all disciplines or courses have ready-to-use textbooks, courses, or curriculum.
In this workshop, four faculty from Child Development and Family Studies will share lessons learned as they attempted to replace textbooks in five different courses in their major with OER. Each faculty used different tools and approaches to fit their particular course. They will share suggestions, challenges, and resources for faculty who are considering taking the leap into OER.
