GTA Teaching Preparation Certificate Program

The GTA Teaching Preparation Certificate Program is designed to provide Graduate Teaching Assistants with a structured experience that prepares them for classroom and laboratory teaching. Any graduate student is eligible to participate.

Getting Started

  • Course Design
    • Have you expanded your reach to students with the full spectrum of course design?
  • Teaching Portfolio
    • Development of a teaching portfolio is an ongoing process. This page offers some guides in writing a Teaching Philosophy statement, and what artifacts might be most reflective of your instruction.
  • Creating a Faculty Development Plan
    • This video (runtime: 1:04:26) presented by Tom Brinthaupt, PhD will be helpful as you look toward developing yourself as a member of faculty.

Campus Resources

  • Lucinda Taylor Lea Learning, Teaching, and Innovative Technologies Center (LT&ITC)
    • Our center provides several workshops, webinars, and events each semester that are open to all Faculty and GTAs.  For more information, please check out our website (you're here already!), email us at ltanditc@mtsu.edu, or stop by our offices at 348 Walker Library.
  • ITD Service Portal
    • The goal of the ITD Help Desk is to be the first place that students, faculty, and staff turn to when confronted with IT obstacles. The Help Desk is staffed seven days a week when classes are in session. Experienced personnel can answer hardware, software, password, and other computing questions.
  • James E. Walker Library
    • The library does have a lot of services, and does have a collection of well over a million volumes on the shelves and at least that much online, but they are dedicated to helping students feel successful and help break down any feelings of being overwhelmed by the size and scope of not only the library, but the whole college experience.
