Every semester a small, student-led team participates in the TVA Investment Challenge. The team manages a $300,000 equity portfolio on behalf of the Tennessee Valley Authority's Nuclear Decommissioning Trust Fund. Twenty-five universities participate in this competition, which gives students real-world experience in equity research and portfolio management. Students who have passed both FIN 3010 (Principles of Corporate Finance) and FIN 3810 (Investments) are eligible for the fund manager role. Those selected need to register for the TVA Investment Challenge class (FIN 4900/5900) to act as fund managers.
