Undergraduate Programs Graduate Programs

MTSU also offers undergraduate and graduate hybrid programs.  Students enrolled in hybrid programs must take several on-ground courses to complete their degrees.  Additional information is available at each degree site. MTSU has several fully online minors and certificates that students may want to consider as part of their programs.

Fully Online Undergraduate Programs

Business Administration (B.B.A.) 
Business Administration is a major for students who wish to pursue a general business career but do not wish to select a specific business area. The student will leave the program equipped with managerial, communication, and decision‐making skills. 

Commerce (B.S.)*
The Bachelor of Science in Commerce is a flexible degree plan designed to provide a broad-based course of study in business while maintaining the flexibility necessary for the modern college student. 

Communication (B.A.) 
The Department of Communication Studies offers the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) via online delivery.  Courses in this degree stress developing strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of diverse cultures, improved problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work well in a group as both member and leader.

Communication (B.A.), Culture and Social Influence Concentration
The major in Communication with a concentration in Culture and Social Influence (CSI) equips students to understand communication in various significant social contexts.

Communication (B.A.), Health Communication Concentration
The major in Communication with a concentration in Health Communication equips students to understand communication as it applies to various health contexts and to be advocates for themselves and others in health-related experiences. Health Communication combines the skills, concepts, theories, and processes we talk about in our core communication classes and uses them to advance health and well-being.

Communication (B.A.), Organizational Communication Concentration
This degree focus offers entry into a range of for-profit and non-profit organizational careers and graduate studies.

Communication (B.S.) 
The study of communication focuses on how people use messages to generate meanings within and across various contexts.  Students completing courses in this program study all forms, modes, media, and consequences of human communication, creating flexibility in career choices and opportunities for personal development.

Communication (B.S.), Culture and Social Influence Concentration
The major in Communication with a concentration in Culture and Social Influence (CSI) equips students to understand communication in various significant social contexts. These experiences prepare students for success in a variety of fields including public relations, community engagement, ministry, politics, diversity consulting, business administration, college admissions, and many others.

Communication (B.S.), Health Communication Concentration
The major in Communication with a concentration in Health Communication equips students to understand communication as it applies to various health contexts and to be advocates for themselves and others in health-related experiences.

Communication (B.S.), Organizational Communication Concentration
This degree focus offers entry into a range of for-profit and non-profit organizational careers and graduate studies.

Criminal Justice (B.S.)*
Courses in the Department of Criminal Justice Administration provide students with a well-rounded curriculum designed to meet the academic needs of those seeking careers in law enforcement, courts, corrections, and homeland security.

Emergency Management and Homeland Security (B.S.)
This program examines global and local threats to public safety and prepares the students to assume management and leadership roles in the field. Every level of government and industry needs security specialists to develop policies, procedures, and strategies to protect their communities, employees, and critical services. Graduates are provided with the knowledge and skills to serve in many roles in the emergency management and homeland domain.

English (B.A.)
MTSU has five undergraduate programs in English leading to a degree. Designed for students interested in a broad experience of English studies, including courses in literature, writing, and linguistics. Includes foreign language and approved Bachelor of Arts minor requirements.

Information Systems (B.B.A.) 
For those who like to work with computers and technology, there's no need to look further. Information Systems is where business and technology meet. This ever-growing field attracts graduates who thrive in a team environment and want to utilize their expertise to develop even newer technologies to maximize business productivity. 

Integrated Studies (B.S.)* 
This interdisciplinary degree program is extremely flexible and is an excellent option for students seeking a broad-based educational experience or wanting to custom design a degree program. There are two concentrations for Integrated Studies – Applied Leadership and Public Safety.  

Integrated Studies (B.S.), Applied Leadership Concentration*
This specialized curriculum is for adult learners employed in business and industry and provides up to four individual undergraduate certificates covering topics needed in today's business environment, including leadership theory, communication and problem-solving, leading teams, and leading people and managing change.

Integrated Studies (B.S.), Public Safety Concentration*
The interdisciplinary Public Safety concentration will provide an adult degree completion program to public safety professionals and will provide them with the opportunity to develop important knowledge and skills in crisis response, diversity, communication, and leadership.

Law Enforcement (B.S.)
The classwork prepares students with the expectations of those who will serve in these public safety positions as well as the internal operations of law enforcement agencies. Studies will also involve familiarizing the student with ethics, individual rights, constitutional law, and modern criminal investigation techniques.

Leisure and Sport Management (B.S.) 
A Council on Accreditation of Recreation, Parks, Tourism, and Related Professions program, the B.S. in Leisure and Sport Management provides knowledge, skills, and experiences for students interested in preparing for positions in sport management, outdoor recreation, recreation administration, and related professions. 

Management and Leadership (B.B.A.)
The B.B.A. in Management and Leadership develops students' skills in leading others, leading strategically, and leading change while also increasing self-awareness to be stronger organizational members and leaders whenever those opportunities occur.  Students may choose from a list of electives to gain skills in leading change/innovation, leading organizations/teams, global mindset, and decision-making/problem-solving.

Political Science (B.A.)

The Information Technology concentration helps students prepare for management positions in the field of information technology.

Professional Studies (B.S.), International Organizational Leadership Concentration*
This program concentration teaches about NGOs and non-profits, international law, political economy, intercultural communication, and international relations.

Professional Studies (B.S.), Organizational Leadership Concentration*
The Organizational Leadership Concentration helps students prepare for management positions in the field of organizational leadership. The program focuses on public relations, psychology, business etiquette, human resources, and cultural diversity. 

Psychology (B.S.)
Psychology reaches into multiple areas of human activity, from the workplace to schools, research hospitals to forensic investigation, as those trained in the field strive to understand and serve human needs. 

Recording Industry (B.S.), Music Business Concentration
A student majoring in Recording Industry can pursue a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Music Business.  With talented faculty members who have ties to all parts of the industry and the only college chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), students enter a crowded field with valuable advantages. 

Sociology (B.A.)
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Sociology supports students interested in addressing challenging issues such as family dynamics, inequality, patterns of behavior, and forces for social change and resistance.  

Sociology (B.S.)
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Sociology includes three concentrations in which to specialize: Criminology, Social Justice, or Work and Family Studies.  Each offers opportunities for students to examine social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior from specific perspectives.

Sociology (B.S.), Criminology Concentration
The Criminology concentration is a rigorous program that provides students with a comprehensive understanding and critical analysis of the causes and control of crime, as well as how crime is defined, presented, and responded to within contemporary society.

Sociology (B.S.), Social Justice Concentration
The social justice concentration focuses on understanding the impact of structured inequality based on race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and disability, exploring and critiquing social policy that reinforces and sustains inequality. Social activism and change are also addressed.

Sociology (B.S.), Work and Family Studies Concentration
The Work and Family concentration offers students a practical understanding of the two closely related fields of family sociology and the sociology of work. This innovative concentration cultivates in-depth knowledge of work and family patterns at various levels of society and prepares students for careers or graduate study in a variety of fields such as human resources, social work, education, public policy, law, mental health counseling, social welfare and justice.

Aeronautical Science (M.S.), Aviation Education Concentration
The Aviation Education concentration in MTSU's Department of Aerospace is designed to serve students interested in the conduct of aviation education, training, or professional development programs, or in the administration of such programs. Students in this concentration take classes in both the Aerospace Department and MTSU's College of Education.

Aeronautical Science (M.S.), Aviation Management Concentration
The Aviation Management concentration in MTSU's Department of Aerospace is a management and operations-oriented degree program designed in cooperation with industry representatives. Studies focus on airport activities and organizational structures, aviation contracts and leases, and aviation systems management.

Aeronautical Science (M.S.), Aviation Safety and Secuirty Management Concentration
The Safety and Security Management concentration is designed to give students the knowledge and expertise needed to develop and manage aviation safety and security programs in the airlines, airports, government agencies, and throughout the aviation industry.

Assessment, Learning, and Student Success (Ed.D), School Improvement Concentration
The Ed.D. in Assessment, Learning, and Student Success is a doctoral program capitalizing on faculty expertise in the College of Education and across the University. The K12 concentration offers research-based knowledge, analytical skills, and practical application to enhance student learning, increase assessment scores, and improve schools. 

Business Administration (M.B.A.)
Meeting the rigorous standards for accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Jones College of Business provides a deep grounding in principles of accounting, business analytics, management, finance, and much more through the Flex M.B.A. program. 

Business Administration (M.B.A.), Health Care Management Concentration
Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with a concentration in healthcare management is a key element in the preparation for leadership roles in the healthcare industry. The program is designed to train leaders who influence decisions and direct the healthcare industry.

Business Administration (M.B.A.), Music Business Concentration
This program focuses on the unique aspects of the music business and prepares students to gain an inside track into the industry. 

Business Administration (M.B.A.), Strategic Marketing Analytics Concentration
The marketing concentration equips students for different professional marketing roles. The skills gained from this concentration could benefit a marketer called on to fulfill various roles in their organization (e.g., oversee digital marketing efforts, gather and analyze marketing research, and collaborate with other functional areas in the organization). 

Criminal Justice Administration (M.C.J.)
A Master of Criminal Justice (M.C.J.) degree can help pave the way for advancement in professional opportunities in law enforcement, homeland security, courts, police administration, correctional management, probation, parole, juvenile justice, drug rehabilitation, and private security or investigations. 

Curriculum and Instruction (M.Ed.), Digital Teaching and Learning Concentration
This program focuses on examining and exploring topics and strategies appropriate for creating, managing, evaluating, and delivering effective digital instruction.  Coursework includes instructional design as well as internet law, project management, and designing online professional development.  Courses are aligned to International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards and Competencies for Instructional Design Professionals. 

Curriculum & Instruction (Ed.S.)
This Specialist in Education program is for all who would like to learn more about cultural diversity, mental processes, and cognitive/educational neuroscience and their impact on the exciting world of teaching and learning. There is a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction as well as a specialization in Culture, Cognition, and the Learning Process. 

Curriculum and Instruction (M.Ed.), Teaching and Innovation in PK-16 Concentration
This Master of Education (M.Ed.) online program is designed for individuals who either: a.) have completed a teacher preparation program and already have an initial or professional level PreK-12 teaching license, OR b.) do not need a teaching license for their current workplace situation (private school setting, state institutions, etc.) but want to learn more about curriculum and instruction.  The concentration is focused on the teaching and innovation of PK-16 educators (preschool - adult learning) as leaders, advocates for change, and digital navigators. All coursework is completed online in an asynchronous learning environment. 

Cybersecurity Management (M.S.)

This STEM-designated program, offered online with 7-week classes, provides a flexible and convenient learning environment tailored to the needs of working professionals. Explore topics such as risk management, incident response, security architecture, cybersecurity governance, and advanced threat analysis. With a curriculum that blends theoretical learning with practical application, you will master strategies for implementing robust security measures, establishing comprehensive security protocols, and managing evolving digital threats.

Digital Teaching & Learning Certificate
The Digital Teaching and Learning (DTL) Certificate program helps build skills and knowledge necessary to effectively deliver and facilitate online learning by examining and evaluating models and strategies for online instruction, designing appropriate curriculum, exploring literacy and multiple literacy development through new media tools, incorporating seminar techniques for online discussions, selecting and applying digital learning structures to the PreK-12 classroom, addressing issues related to diversity and accessibility, designing digital content for online lessons, selecting assessments for the digital classroom, and using data to inform practice 

Finance (M.S.)
The purpose of the Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Finance is to provide a graduate-level knowledge base and expertise to those who work in the growing field of finance, assisting individuals, companies, and governments, among others, in navigating the increasingly complex and essential world of financial analysis. This program seeks to provide students with instruction that will prepare them for careers as financial analysts, consultants, managers, and planners. 

Library Science (M.L.S.)
The program consists of 36 credits, with all coursework 100% online and asynchronous except for one field experience to help produce practice-ready librarians. Each course is tailored to individual student interests, and students are allowed to propose alternative electives in other disciplines.

Library Science (M.L.S.), Dual MLS-MSW Degree Program
Gain knowledge and skills in both library / information science and social work to meet the needs of our communities from the smallest of rural counties to large cities.

Literacy (M. Ed.)
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Literacy is designed to focus on the most current research in the field of literacy. The program provides an in-depth study of literacy development and strategies to support academic growth and success. The curriculum includes a variety of literacy topics, such as foundational knowledge, developmental continuums, assessment, writing, and specific strategies for supporting students. Graduates of the program who meet the criteria and are interested may be eligible to add on the reading specialist endorsement to their current teaching license.

Management (M.S.), Organizational Leadership Concentration
The Master of Science in Management with a concentration in Organizational Leadership offers students a comprehensive program that enhances their planning, communication, and ethical decision-making skills. The program prepares students to develop into successful managers who can thrive in different types of organizations and advance to higher levels of management.

Music, Music Education concentration (M.M.)
The online Master of Music specialization in Music Education is designed for current K-12 music educators looking to refine their abilities and advance their careers. Courses are taught by MTSU's distinguished and esteemed faculty and can be completed in two years.  

Nursing (M.S.N.), Family Nurse Practitioner Concentration
The MSN degree addresses a critical shortage of Family Nurse Practitioners with high-quality, affordable, and time-efficient studies. Coursework is completed online, except for clinical rotations through approved preceptors (in the student's home area when possible).  

Nursing, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certificate
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners deliver holistic care to individuals, families or groups with acute or chronic mental health problems..  The certificate program in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is designed to meet the demand for psychiatric providers in the health care field.  Coursework is completed online, except for clinical rotations through approved preceptors (in the student's home area when possible). 

Nursing (M.S.N.), Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) are specialized providers trained in holistic care for individuals, families, and groups with chronic and acute psychiatric and mental health issues across the lifespan. This program assists you in building confidence to care for the needs of others with instructors that desire to see you succeed. In this concentration, you will hone your expertise to develop a therapeutic alliance with clients and establish a knowledge base to improve situations with care. You will also develop skills in assessment, diagnosis, planning, treatment, and evaluation for future patients.

Professional Science (M.S.), Engineering Management Concentration
The Engineering Management concentration in the Master of Science in Professional Science degree was created to provide engineers, scientists, and technicians with the business and management tools needed for leadership positions in manufacturing and industry.

Professional Studies (M.P.S.)*
The MPS is an interdisciplinary graduate degree program designed for working professionals who wish to earn a graduate degree in their area of expertise and excel in their careers. Concentrations include Human Resources Leadership, Strategic Leadership, Training & Development,  and Leadership in Nutrition, and Operations Research.  

Professional Studies (M.P.S.), Human Resources Leadership Concentration
The Human Resources Leadership concentration is an interdisciplinary graduate degree program designed for working professionals who wish to earn a graduate degree and excel in their careers. Coursework focuses on a variety of workplace factors (economic, environmental, ethical, legal, political, and administrative) and the impact they can have on organizational productivity, performance, and behavior.

Professional Studies (M.P.S.), Leadership in Nutrition Concentration
This program meets the National Commission on Dietetic Registration mandate for the minimum of a master's degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become a registered dietician nutritionist graduate education registered dietician.

Professional Studies (M.P.S.), Operations Research Concentration
The MPS Operations Research Concentration is designed for those interested in data visualization, survey techniques and implementation strategies, and operational needs assessment, which are the basis of conducting and presenting the findings of organizational survey-based research that is fundamental in organizational decision-making and advancement. The program culminates with a professional project.

Professional Studies (M.P.S.), Strategic Leadership Concentration
The Strategic Leadership master's program examines various subject areas including leadership theory, research/data analysis, organizational structure and change, communication, and strategic planning and assessment. The program culminates with a professional project.

Professional Studies (M.P.S.), Training and Development Concentration
This Training and Development concentration offers preparation for teaching adults in the corporate training environment or facilitating courses in an online environment.

Supply Chain Management (M.S.)
The Master of Science in Supply Chain Management trains students to be professionals in all areas of supply chain management, including: logistics, distribution, planning, and procurement.

Accountancy (M.Acc.)
The Department of Accounting offers a flexible Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) degree program that develops students' decision-making and communication skills and provides a path to professional accounting certifications.

Data Science, Graduate Certificate
The Graduate Certificate in Data Science at MTSU allows everyone the opportunity to learn the data skills needed to compete in the current and future marketplace.  Students will learn how to solve data-related problems by understanding the data, exploring and cleaning the data, then visualizing the data to create and optimize predictive models.

Data Science (M.S.)

The MTSU Data Science Master’s Program aims to prepare students to be competitive on the job market. The courses will equip students with advanced data science skills including, but not limited to, computer programing, data visualization and manipulation, predictive modeling, business analytics and communications.

Social Work (M.S.W.)
The Master of Social Work promotes excellence in advanced generalist social work education, research, and practice.
