Welcome to the MTSU Honors College Magazine!

The biannual magazine of the University Honors College began in 1974, and has continuously published two magazines each year.  The magazine has undergone several name changes throughout the College’s history. In 1974, it was first published as Honors in Perspective and was later renamed The Honors Alternative, The Honors Edition, and The Honors Magazine. In 2017, the University Honors Colllege magazine was then renamed Areté, which is a term borrowed from the Greeks defined as excellence and virtue.

For many years, the magazine was edited by the former Honors executive secretary Karen Demonbreum. From 2008-2022, Marsha Powers, Honors College coordinator of special projects and publications, served as editor. Robin E. Lee is the current editor and also serves as adviser to both Collage and Scientia et Humanitas
