Compliance in Blue 2020: Changing with the Changes
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Compliance in Blue event for 2020 was held by virtual webinar in recognition of National Compliance
and Ethics week. Speakers from the November 5, 2020 and November 9, 2020 webinars
included: Rodney Escobar – Director, State of Tennessee Claims and Risk Management
Division; Dean Kinsman – Special Agent, Cybersecurity, Federal Bureau of Investigation;
Nathan Opie – Special Agent, Private Sector Coordinator, Federal Bureau of Investigation;
Beverly Watts – Executive Director of the Tennessee Human Rights Commission; and Royce
Massengill – Community Organizer, Podcast Host, and Music Producer.

Raising the Bar: Compliance and Ethics in Blue 2019
In 2019, CAERM held a second Compliance and Ethics Event entitled, Raising the Bar: Compliance and Ethics in Blue 2019. The one day conference featured General Session speakers Rodney Escobar - Director
of the State of Tennessee's Claims and Risk Management Division; Beverly Watts - Executive
Director of the Tennessee Human Rights Commission; and Darrell S. Freeman, Sr. - Vice
Chairman of MTSU's Board of Trustees and Executive Chairman of Zycron Industries.
The 2019 session also featured concurrent/break-out sessions with speakers from MTSU's
Police Department; Academic Affairs Division; Finance and Administration Department;
Disability Access Center; Child Care Lab; and from the Institutional Equity and Compliance
Office.

Compliance in Blue: Discussions on Compliance Topics in Higher Education - 2018
In recognition of National Compliance and Ethics week, which is typically the first
full week of November, the Office of Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management (CAERM)
hosts Compliance and Ethics events for MTSU faculty and staff. The first such event
entitled, Compliance in Blue: Discussions on Compliance Topics in Higher Education, took place on November 6, 2018. The 2018 Compliance in Blue event was held in the Student Union's Parliamentary Room with a General Session that
featured interviews with the University's Provost and General Counsel, as well as
with the Chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee of MTSU's Board of Trustees,
Ms. Christine Karbowiak, who serves as the Chief Risk Officer, Chief Administrative
Officer, and Executive Vice President of Bridgestone Americas, Inc.
